Updating jailbroken phone
But, as it turns out, the new exploit is effective for i OS 5.0.1.
The hacker tested the exploit on his i Phone 4 with the final i OS version and posted a happy tweet to share the news with the world.
The hackers have developed a new version of Redsn0w that not only allows for jailbreaking i OS 5 and fixes a Location Services issue for the i Phone 3GS with baseband in the process.
The launch of Redsn0w 0.9.9 came a few days after the release of Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 for i Phone users with the Mac operating system and was the first solution for the new i OS.
The new beta version does not have any new features but fixes performance bugs and is available to developers so far.
Supposedly, i OS 5.0.1 no longer has the battery drain problem, fixes the bug that caused the i Pad 2 Smart Cover security flaw and features additional security enhancements.
If you have already jailbroken your i Phone, you don't need to bother with re-jailbreaking your i Phone. So if you are a developer and would like to jailbreak your newly updated i Phone with i OS 5.0.1, you will probably be glad to know that a jailbreak solution was released a day after the i OS 5.0.1 launch. The i Phone Dev-Team was the first to present Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 that works its magic on the new firmware version and jailbreaks your i OS device.Unfortunately, both solutions are limited to a tethered jailbreak so you will have to plug you i Device into a computer each time you power it off to be able to use it again.Luckily, there a partial fix for this issue – a Cydia tweak called Semi Tether which allows for rebooting your i OS 5.0.1 tethered i Phone, i Pad, or i Pod touch device into a semi-usable state.
